The wood placard in the upper left corner tells us that the kabuki character Yaegakihime is portrayed. Yaegakihime is a fox. Her husband was captured and his hide used to adorn a warrior's helmet. This is the point in the play where she has changed into human form to steal back his remains, on display in a shrine.
