hagoita- Sukeroku
The writing in the upper left hand corner tells us that this figure represents Sukeroku, a kabuki character who appears in a play known in English as The Flower of Edo.  He's shown here in one of his classic poses. He is shouldering a bamboo flute. Velvet covered handle, hand-painted chirimen silks.
Excelent condition, probably date of construction, 1950s.
Wood paddle, hand painted, top quality fabrics and construction.
A photo of the stage character is included for reference.
