Kaga is a region in Japan. The noren from this region are dispalyed at the entrance of a newlywed coouples home. Walking together through the wedding noren is a custom somehwhat similar to the custom of a groom carrying the bride across the threshhold in the West. Kaga noren are most often light weight, hand painted silk. A cotton, indigo-dyed version is a rare find.
Excellent condition, excellent quality. However, there is a tiny hole near the top. Medium weight 100% cotton, handwoven. 62" wide by 66" tall. Five panels. Roughly 90-120 years old.
