Furoshiki are cloth wrappers used to wrap and carry items. They come in all sizes - from handkerchief-like diminuitive items to huge room size versions. The larger ones are quite useful as table cloths and bed covers, not to mention wall hangings. Most of them have enough yardage to fashion quite stylish garments.
Tabanoshi (also called tabanenoshi) are bundles of dried sea bream often given as gifts in the old days and used as a symbol of celebration.
Good condition, but with a couple of holes - see photos. Medium weight 100% cotton, handwoven. 48" x 50". Made up of four panels. Roughly 150 years old.
Deep blue over all and slight yellowing of the white through aging. High quality tsutsugaki.
