Boys Day Egg Dolls
May fifth is Baoys’ Day in Japan and this year I would like to celebrate by making fanciful egg dolls in heroic poses.
Egg dolls are a particularly whimsical approach to expressing human nature and day-to-day activities. These dolls may be as simple in appearance as a white egg with just a few strokes to hint at eyes and evoke a sense of quiet contemplation. Or they may be elaborately trussed up in silk brocade to show off the splendor of an Edo Period aristocrat.
And, of course, there is no need to limit yourself to Japanese themes. I’m working on a biker egg doll and will be adding it to this page as soon as it is done. Or how about something in between–such as a Japanese warrior on roller blades? Your imagination is your only limit, and I’ll be your technical guide in realizing your dreams.

Won’t you join me for a whirlwind session in this delightful art?
