I've been barraged with questions over the telephone, and while I am more than
happy to be able to help, and I enjoy speaking with each of you, I can't get my
own work done. So I've come up with a plan, two methods of contracted help:

CONSULTATIONS
We may set up an appointment time over the phone, at which time you will call
back. For first time callers, if I can answer your question in less than a few
minutes, there'll be no fee. However, after the first five minutes the charge
will be $2 per minute, in five minute increments, that is, you will be billed
in $10 increments.
PROCEDURE ONE
Follow the guide lines below and mail, email, or fax me the required information
(this must be on file before we can begin).
Call or e-mail (e-mailing is best) to set an appointment; state two or three
preferred times
have your charge card handy (Visa or Mastercard), you will be asked for it as
soon as I hear your voice!
Plan your questions well to maximize your time with me. I will keep my answers
concise so I can get back to my own dyeing.
You will be notified of the charge at the close of the conversation, and will be
mailed a receipt.
Students who have taken my advanced katazome class are not charged for
consultation time - you've earned your time through your dedication!
PROCEDURE TWO
Follow the guide lines below and mail or fax me the required information (this
must be on file before we can begin).
E-mail me your questions. Be as concise as possible.
You will be billed at $10 per question for questions that take ten minutes or
less for me to read, comprehend, and answer. Questions that require more than
ten minutes will be billed at $2 per minute, in one minute increments. I type
quickly, but if I can't understand your question, I won't be able to answer it
without pondering or asking you to rephrase it.
Your answers will be sent back to you via e-mail, along with the total for the
bill and
you will be mailed a receipt.
Students who have taken my advanced katazome class are not charged for
consultation time - you've earned your time through your dedication!

APPRAISALS
Through my research, shopping, teaching, writing, and collecting, I have
developed a good sense of market value of most Japanese textiles and dolls. If
you would like help in determining the value of something already in your
collection, or something you are considering acquiring, I will be happy to
help. I am also able to give you a detailed description of just how your piece
was created.
For a general appraisals based on emailed JPEGs, with an email response from me
I charge a flat fee of $35/item. If you are mailing photos, and require a
mailed response, I charge a flat rate of $45/item. For this I will tell you
what I believe the true value to be as well as the market value and why. This
includes a description of what it is you actually have (what it is called, what
techniques are involved in its production, and so on.)
For an appraisal that requires handling the actual piece (which would involve
having you ship the item to me, and then have me return it) the flat rate is
$75 per item, plus all shipping and handling costs.
